When arriving by train or bus to the large and futuristic train station Gare do Oriente in Lisbon, you can easily continue the journey to your destination in Lisbon City Centre by bus, train or metro.

Public transport in Lisbon is efficient and cheap – and for visiting central Lisbon, you do not really need to book rental car at Oriente.

If you are planning to visit locations outside Lisbon, a cheap hire car from the Oriente station may be the most cost effective way to go.

Car rental at Oriente

Cheap Oriente (Gare do Oriente) cars for hire are frequently supplied by Avis Rent-A-Car, Europcar or Sixt, which all have offices nearby. The lesser known local, and often cheap Lisbon hire car company Rentauto, has an office at the Oriente train station location as well.

The Avis, Europcar and Rentauto car rental offices are found in the main Oriente building close to the bus station on the ground floor. The Sixt car hire office in Oriente is situated nearby at Rua da Centieira 7.

The hire cars at Oriente (Avis, Europcar and Autorent) are located in the underground parking from where there is easy access to a number major roads leading out of Lisbon.

Lisbon-Oriente car hire in the summer time

When arriving to Oriente-Lisboa in the summer-time, cars for rent will usually be more expensive. Always be sure to pre-book online, as there most likely are savings to be made and it is highly advisable to secure a vehicle in advance.

Expect summer-rental prices at Oriente-Lisboa to start at some €200 per week for a small Ford Fiesta class of rental car (Super-mini class). In the busy months of July, August and September, the cheapest rental car in Oriente-Lisboa might be as much as €250-280 per week, but frequently Oriente-Lisbon rental cars are cheaper, even in high season.

Going to the Airport from Oriente train station should not cost more than €10 in a taxi. The Lisbon metro, unfortunately, does not yet connect to the airport.

The Oriente Park of Nations Area

Oriente metro and train station was built for the Expo-98 World Exhibition.

In Portuguese the Park of Nations in the Oriente area is referred to as Parque das Nações or just ‘Expo’.

The area comprises large open spaces and leisure areas with bars, restaurants, a good size shopping centre – the Vasco da Gama, a famous large aquarium the Oceanário, cable cars, an exhibition centre for international trade fairs, hotels etc. etc.
