Driving to Beloura

Beloura – play golf on the outskirts of Lisbon

Beloura lies within the metropolitan area of Lisbon. Despite being equally close to the coastal town of Cascais, Beloura is, in fact, part of the municipality of Sintra.

Situated on the foothill of the Sintra Mountain, Beloura is a vast area of unique charm and character, known for its residential complexes, golfing facilities and places of interest for tourists.

At Beloura you have everything within a short drive including horseriding facilities, tennis courts, a luxury health club and the very well assorted supermarket, the SuperCor, which is maybe the best (and sometimes most expensive) supermarket on the Lisbon Coast.

Quinta da Beloura – living and golfing

Quinta da Beloura is a residential development incorporating a top-rated golf course.

The Pestana Golf Resort´s course, conceived by the famous American golf course architect Rocky Roquemore, offers a challenging experience for golfers of all levels, within the enchanting scenery of luxurious exotic vegetation and artificial, as well as natural lakes and streams.

In addition to this exceptional course, there is a 4-stars hotel (Pestana Hotel Beloura), a clubhouse and training facilities with golf classes available.

Living in Beloura – expat in the Sintra-Cascais area

Quinta da Beloura offers many different housing solutions.

Whether you are interested in buying a property, or renting one, Beloura is considered an exquisite location within the Lisbon area.

The calm, low-key sophistication of Beloura, combined with great proximity of Lisbon attracts not only tourists but also well-off locals. There are many luxury estates, as well as a bit more modest condominium apartments available at Quinta da Beloura.

Since 2011 the accessibility of buying or renting a property in Beloura has improved. From an expat resident point of view, the previously over-priced houses in the Beloura resort now offer a tempting alternative to hotels and rented accomodation.

In the aftermath of the financial crisis, quite a lot of properties are put on the market at nearly reasonable prices, and in 2012-2013, the scope for negotiating a considerable reduction of the price of a property in Beloura is better than ever before.

If you prefer to rent an apartment or house in Quinta da Beloura (either Quinta da Beloura I or the newer, but not necessarily better Quinta da Beloura II), you will often be able to negotiate reductions of 20-40% on your long term rental rate (usually minimum 6 months) compared to the rental rates offered before the crisis.

Be sure to negotiate – and do bargain hard if you feel the rental rate at Beloura is not right. Prolonging a lease after 6 months might cut 100-200 euros of the monthly rate too, but only if you ask for it.

Places of interest around Beloura

Beloura is not just golf.

The natural beauty of Sintra Mountain invites to biking, hiking and driving trips. The village of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an absolute must for any tourist, although we do not recommend driving in the historical centre of Sintra, as it is best explored on foot.

You will need a car though to get to Lagoa Azul, part of the Sintra Natural Park, to Estoril motor race track or to Cascais Shopping, the most popular and by far the largest mall of the area.

Huge choice at Sintra gardening centres

A curious fact: due to Sintra´s unique microclimate, moist and pleasantly cool even in the summer, Beloura is an excellent place to grow and… shop for plants.
Major gardening centres with an excellent choice of local and exotic plants, as well as horticulture and gardening supplies are located in Beloura.

Driving to Beloura

Beloura can be easily reached from Lisbon by a 20 minutes drive on the IC19 road (direction Sintra), or by the A5 (direction Cascais) and the new A16 highway (Cascais-Sintra connection).

It is even easier to get to Beloura from Cascais, by the same A5 or by many of the minor roads. A car can be rented in many locations of Lisbon, including the Lisbon Airport, as well as in Cascais city centre.

Finding the golf courses close to Beloura

If you are driving to the Pestana Golf course you should be looking for directions to Quinta da Beloura or Linhó.

Its possible to access Beloura through the small town of Linhó or to enter directly from the N9 road which runs parallel with the A16 main road between Cascais and Sintra. See map.

Quinta da Beloura is a well protected 24 hour guarded and gated area. The streets in Beloura, however, are public, so even as a non-resident, you will be able to enter Beloura at any time under the watchful eyes of the security staff. In case you are lost, don’t hesitate to ask the helpful security for directions.

Only about a mile from Beloura, across the road from Lagoa Azul by the N9-1 road, you find the famous and slightly more expensive Penha Longa golf course and resort. Penha Longa lies within the protected Cascais-Sintra Nature Park.

A few more miles south towards the coastal town of Cascais, golfers are spoiled for choice with the Estoril Golf Course, the Quinta da Marinha Golf Course and the Oitavos Golf Course, the latter of which is rated amongst the best golf courses in Europe.
