Lisbon Airport Ryanair new base – Ryanair routes to and from Lisbon in 2014

The leading European low-cost carrier Ryanair announced the location of its new base in Portugal: beginning from April 2014, Lisbon Airport will welcome one resident aircraft and see new routes added to the already existing network of budget flights to and from Lisbon.

The new Ryanair’s summer routes at Lisbon Airport will be available to:

  • Dole
  • Manchester
  • Marseille
  • Pisa

By that time, the total number of routes offered by Ryanair at Lisbon airport will increase to 9, being the other routes: Beauvais, Brussels,Dublin, Hahn and London-Stansted.

Ryanair invests in Lisbon Airport
The inauguration of Lisbon Airport Ryanair base is accompanied a §90 million investment which, according to the airline is will allow the airport to reach its full potential, held back at present by relatively high costs of flights available from the main carrier in this location at the moment, Portugal’s flag carrier, TAP.

As the airline estimates, strengthening its position at Portugal’s key airport will allow to increase to 900 000 the total number of passengers carried to and from Lisbon Airport each year.

The new routes are also believed to create 900 on-site jobs.

Ryanair cheap flights to Portugal
Lisbon Airport (LIS), officially known as Lisbon Portela Airports is Ryanair’s 3rd Portuguese base.

The Irish carrier is present in Portugal since 2009 when it established its first Portuguese base in Porto Airport (OPO).

Faro Airport (FAO) serving the popular tourist destination of the Algarve, in the southern Portugal, became Ryanair’s 2nd Portuguese base in 2010.

Lisbon Airport base is Ryanair’s 65th European base.

Fly low-cost to Lisbon
Ryanair’s main competitor in the segment of cheap flights in Europe, Easyjet is also present at Lisbon Airport with an extensive network of routes to:

Other major European budget carriers are represented at Lisbon Airport by Germanwings, with routes to and from Cologne/Bonn and Stuttgart, as well as by Norwegian, flying to Lisbon from Copenhagen and Oslo-Gardemoen.
